The Musical Legacy of Abdoullah Listen to the 8 Rediscovered Masterpieces From 1935

It was an absolutely incredible experience spending the last few weeks with four talented musicians and sound engineers to finally make these songs available to our community.

The songs are so beautiful, so very moving and do something to you emotionally. They are so worth listening to.

If you’ve ever read a Neville Goddard lecture and wondered what it actually “felt” like to be in Ab’s presence, this music will transport you there.

We aren’t just sharing this so you’ll buy them. We are selling them on Bandcamp so the exceptional musicians who helped bring this to life are paid for their beautiful work.

Please consider supporting CWB, but most of all, we hope you allow yourself to have the same profound experience we had listening to these songs.

The Recovered 1935 Songs of G. M. Ahmad-Abdoullah

This release presents the musical legacy of G. M. Ahmad-Abdoullah. In 1935, working from 30 West 72nd Street in New York City, he registered a suite of original voice and piano scores with the U.S. Copyright Office. Ninety-one years later, these compositions have been recovered from the Library of Congress deposit copies.

Before his association with mystic philosopher Neville Goddard as the teacher known as Abdullah, he had a distinguished career in early twentieth-century American music. Classically trained in Europe in the Leschetizky and Lamperti Bel Canto traditions, he toured as a premier baritone with the celebrated Williams & Walker Glee Club, performed at the home of Booker T. Washington in 1905, directed recording sessions for the Columbia Phonograph Company in Washington, D.C., composed operatic selections for the Oliver Ditson Company, and operated a Bel Canto vocal conservatory in Atlantic City.

He performed in Williams and Walker’s landmark Broadway productions Abyssinia (1906) and Bandanna Land (1907). In 1909 he served as musical arranger at Chicago’s historic Pekin Theatre, the nation’s first Black-owned stock theater, and arranged J. Leubrie Hill’s “Chief Bungaboo” for the Williams & Walker Glee Club.

The eight recovered compositions trace a profound emotional and spiritual journey from the raw pain of unrequited love and earthly yearning, through a search for peace, and finally into a cosmic, trusting surrender to the absolute.

These are modest, faithful renditions of the 1935 sheet music, made so that the community can finally hear the music he left behind.
